Why ‘Why?’?
‘A weblog lasting several decades with the choice to introduce just a few people per year, say, who have full access to the wiki page space when they are “guesting” is a very, very different thing (and a potentially far far more powerful one) than a weblog of old. Take the example of Isaiah Berlin’s very disorganised weblog/wiki of around forty years up till 1974. The arrival of just one other person, Henry Hardy, has made an enormous difference to the state of the weblog and indeed the increasingly towering reputation of the original author. Berlin is now dead and Hardy expects the editing of the wiki to be the rest of his own life’s work. Ignatieff has come in to do the one authorized biography. It’s cool. It’s the best example of the kind of six–seven decade wiki that I’m thinking of.’
